Tough task for torque sensor

A milestone in the development of Oceanflow’s Evopod technology was reached in March with the demonstration of grid connectivity by the company’s 1:10th scale trials unit in Strangford Narrows, Northern Ireland. Output from the Evopod can now be fed into the domestic mains circuit of Queen’s University’s Marine Laboratory. Evopod uses a fixed pitch turbine

driving a permanent magnet generator through a gearbox. For an effective sensing solution to measure torque and rotational speed of the turbine, Oceanflow Energy turned to Sensor Technology and its TorqSense torque sensor.

Bearing solutions

KAYDON re-manufactured bearings are used by Duncan Plant and Construction, Antrim-based specialist in wind turbine operation management and maintenance. Such has been their success, the company has opted for the re-manufacture of more Zond wind turbine blade bearings.

Wastefulness is still all too common in the industrial sector, particularly where staff are using disposable wipers. When supplied with a loose roll of paper or a wall-mounted centrefeed roll it is tempting to take more paper than is needed to save time going back for more later. Mark Riley of Tork wiper

manufacturer SCA explains how an efficient dispensing system can reduce workshop waste.
