involved in the production of multi crystalline wafers for the photovoltaic industry has been provided with two highly automated TS2 (twin-spindle) machines, which have been interfaced with an automated handling system. With superior surface finish now a goal for multi-crystalline wafer manufacturers, general design trends are tending towards long units, but Abwood has come up with a solution to keep the machine as compact as possible using a 300mm diameter Meister Abrasives vitrified diamond roughing cup wheel with a 27 mm diameter Meister Abrasives vitrified diamond finishing cup wheel sitting inside it.

Norbar Torque Tools has released a new App as a free iPhone and Android download. Based on Norbar’s online Torque Wrench Extension Calculator at
www.norbar.com, the new App will calculate what value you need to set on a torque wrench to achieve the desired level of torque when the wrench is extended. Putting an extension on a torque wrench increases the level of torque being applied to a fastener – the longer the wrench, the greater the torque. Instructions are available in English, French,German and
Spanish, making the Norbar Torque Wrench Extension Calculator App will be an international tool. It will provide instant and useful calculations as guidelines for engineering professionals, students and apprentices and any other sector where setting accurate torque measurement is a priority. Late last year,Norbar
launched another free App on iPhone and Android Systems that offers instant conversion across a full
range of SI,Metric and Imperial Units. To date it has been downloaded 3328 times.

Cost-effective force measurement
Measurement technology specialist HBM has integrated electronics into its latest SLB700A strain transducers, giving users a simple and cost- effective method of force measurement. The SLB700A/06VA- 1/2 transducer has an integrated
force shunt and are easily attached with four screws to any component where the loading needs to be determined. The integrated amplifier ensures that the force measurement can be easily set up and implemented. HBM has developed a Teach-In
Method via the control contact to simplify the amplifier
set-up.All the operator needs do is to define both the zero and the maximum loading positions and then set corresponding control impulses.

CUTTING FLUID PROBLEM SOLVED
By developing a completely new generation of bactericide-free cutting fluids, Henkel is reported to have succeeded in banishing the drawback of emulsions splitting in use and the related bad odour nuisance, thus obviating a problem associated with water-miscible metalworking fluids. The company says the new emulsions of the Multan brand have proved themselves in industrial practice. After intensive development work,
Henkel formulated a microbiologically robust cutting fluid that not only contains no bactericides (such as formaldehyde splitters), but

does not need any later addition of bactericides to keep it stable. The new product is suitable for many different kinds of machining from roughing to grinding.
