Alpara Sant Joan de Missa (Ciutadella) Map ref: C2 Web ref: 815 Sleeps 12 | 6 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms | Fenced Pool | Small Party Rate*
The location of this traditional country homemust without a doubt rank amongst the finest andmost privileged of all the properties in westernMenorca.Dating back to 1922 when Ciutadella was the island’s capital, the house and grounds originally formed the centrepiece of the estate belonging to the Count of Ciutadella who kept 80 acres for himself before distributing the remaining farmland amongst his nobility.
Perched serenely on the crest of a gentle hill, the views across open, rolling countryside in all directions are quite outstanding. To the west, across the azure waters of theMediterranean, the rugged coastline of northernMallorca looms up fromthe horizon forming a stunning backdrop that is especially pretty at sunset when the famous Capdepera lighthouse begins to glow softly. In earlier times this same expansive sea view allowed the property to double as a lookout point for pirates on their way to attack the capital! Alpara is a haven of peace and tranquillity where you can listen to the tinkle of sheep bells and the chirping of crickets.
The living accommodation is laid out in traditionalMenorquin
style. All bedrooms are located on the ground floor allowing them to remain cooler than average in the heat of the summer.Upstairs, the focal point is the attractive sitting/dining roomwhich boasts a full length shaded terrace fromwhere themagnificent rural vista is really shown to its best.A further terrace on the opposite side of the house looks acrossMenorca’s verdant interior to the island’s highest point atMonte Toro.Whilst the situation is essentially rural, you are nevertheless close to Ciutadella (8km) where you will find all amenities and some superb
restaurants.Beach lovers can choose fromseveral unspoilt rural coves dotted along the south coast, which are all within a 15minute drive.
