Mayor’s Letter NORRIDGE
RONALD A. OPPEDISANO MAYOR
To Our Norridge Community:
Located on a ridge that divides the Chicago River Valley and the Des Plaines River Valley, the Village of Norridge was incorporated December 4, 1948. Only 2 square miles in area, the geographic location of Norridge in relation to the greater Metropolitan Chicago Area, is a major attraction for both residents and businesses.
I want to stress our commitment to providing consistent quality services to you-our residents and business community; services which are cost-effective, efficient and responsive to your needs. We will continue our work toward providing an excellent quality of life for all our citizens. Services are funded in large part by the sales tax revenue received from the State of Illinois based on retail/sales purchases within our boundaries. So please remember - “SHOP NORRIDGE”.
I am also happy to report that we are doing our best to keep costs to our residents at a minimum. I asked my staff to conduct some research and I can tell you that while the Village has been forced to impose or raise some service costs, we are still at a minimum. In checking with a few surrounding municipalities, and with the information available to us over the web, the Village of Norridge provides high levels of services at little or no cost to residents and the business community.
Here are just a few examples: The Village is one of 5 municipalities that operates a 911 Center that does not
• •
charge their residents a tax on land lines for this service; The Village of Norridge does not charge any real estate tax for village services.
A
quick look at your tax bill will confirm this. Many municipalities charge in upwards of 105 of the tax bill that goes to the Village;
• With the exception of major construction and or renovation, we do not charge for building permits;
• Water rates are one of the lowest around; Norridge does not charge for garbage collection service;
• •
The Village incurs all costs for the taking away of waste water for the sanitary district;
• We run very lean on staffing when looking at departments in other municipalities. We have multiple people in multiple positions.
Humbly and appreciatively yours,
Ronald A. Oppedisano, Village President VILLAGE OF NORRIDGE
