ME AND MY WATCH

Today a watch does more than simply tell the time – its style and heritage can also say a lot about its wearer. Here we’ve asked three well-known faces what makes them tick when it comes to choosing which watch to wear.

RIGHT AND BELOW Chris Paterson; Cartier Santos 100 stainless steel.

Chris Paterson

Chris Paterson is a professional rugby player for Edinburgh and Scotland. He’s gained a record 104 caps for Scotland, captained his country and is the nation’s all time highest points scorer.

Have you always had an interest in watches? Yes, as a youngster I remember my grandfather bought my grandmother a Rolex and I remember thinking how special it looked.

What watch are you currently wearing? Mainly my Casio G-Shock as it’s durable and spends most of the day in a kit bag or on my wrist in the weights room at training.

What other watches do you own? I bought a Rolex Oyster Datejust when I gained my first Cap for Scotland. When I reached 50 caps I treated myself to a long admired Rolex Yachtmaster. When I gained 100 caps my treat was a Cartier Santos 100 Chronograph. I was also presented with an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean from LAING the Jeweller. It was a real surprise and hugely appreciated.

Do you have a watch for very special occasions? I think it’d be my Yachtmaster. My wife recently gave birth to our first child and before we left for the hospital I ran upstairs to put it on.

What would be your dream watch? My traditional side would like a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona; the contemporary side, an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore.
