Who will remember them?

Who will remember them?…. For some there will be no memorial, for they perished as if they had never been. For our tomorrows their today they gave, at the

going down of the sun and in the morning... Please pay your respects at Saltburn Cenotaph

10.50am 13th November 2011. My name is Paul J. Dunn age 12 and l have had the honour of laying the Merchant Navy wreath for 6 years. I like to show my respect to all the brave men and women who have served with the MN, for my dad Anthony Dunn, who is currently serving in the Merchant Navy. I pay for the wreath out of my pocket money, and l will continue to lay the Wreath at Saltburn for the MN, along with Frank Cooke RN my mum Joan Ivison, who lays a wreath on behalf of the Army and RAF. We will remember them. Will Saltburn remember them?

Letter to the Editor

By now I imagine most of Saltburn NatWest Bank’s customers will be aware that the branch will be closing its doors sometime in early December, which means that customers will have to either travel to Loftus, Marske, Guisborough or Redcar to do their banking, or go online. For many who are, like myself on low incomes, this will be an inconvenience to say the least. I hardly need to mention that when the HSBC

closed, the Natwest’s windows proudly displayed a poster proclaiming that they would certainly NOT be leaving Saltburn. Their poster said ‘We are committed to remaining open in Saltburn’. How ironic also was the title of one of their leaflets (now removed) available to be picked up when they announced the closure: ’We are here to help your community!’ I’m sure that the many Saltburn business people who bank with NatWest have not felt since their announcement, that they offer ‘helpful banking’. Anyone interested may like to know that there is
