Discover ‘God’s own Country’. Picturesque backwaters, wildlife at Periyar, the harbour city
of Kochi and a houseboat experience combined with cheerful people and delicious cuisine makes this extension ideal also for first time travellers to India.
Day 1: Delhi to Kochi, by air. Fly from Delhi to Kochi. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel. Afternoon depart on a guided tour of Kochi. Enjoy a Kathakali dance performance this evening. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 2: Kochi to Periyar. Drive from Kochi to Periyar for a 2 night stay. Afternoon visit to the Periyar National Park which is home to the elusive tiger, the majestic elephant and the giant Indian Bison. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 3: Periyar. Soft trek the forest in the morning and visit the tea and spice plantations in the afternoon. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 4 - 5: Periyar to Kumarakom. Drive from Periyar to Kumarakom located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake for a 2 night stay. Take an optional trip to Kumarakom Bird sanctuary or a boat cruise along the backwaters. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 6: Houseboat. Transfer to the jetty to board a traditional Kettuvallom - the typical houseboat. The boats usually carry a crew of 3 and all meals are prepared onboard. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 7: Depart Kochi. Disembark and transfer to Kochi Airport and travel to your onward destination.
KANHA
The setting for Rudyard Kipling’s famous ‘Jungle Book’, Kanha National Park is an important
Project Tiger reserve. It is one of the best places to spot these elusive creatures. The rich wildlife found within this park includes deer, leopard, hyena, sloth bear, pythons and nearly 300 species of birds.
Day 1: Delhi to Nagpur by air & Nagpur to Kanha by car. 275 Km/6hrs. Fly from Delhi to Nagpur. Drive to Kanha National Park for a 4 night stay at your hotel.
Day 2 - 4: Kanha. Early morning or afternoon safaris by open four-wheel drive vehicle to see and photograph wildlife. Visit the local market. Spend the evenings sitting around the campfire listening to the noises of the jungle.
Day 5: Kanha to Nagpur by car & Nagpur to Delhi by air. 275 Km/6hrs. Drive to Nagpur and fly from Nagpur to Delhi. Continue on your onward journey.
Note: Visiting season: November-May is favourable; the best period is February-April. Avoid bright colours for jungle trips. Take along warm clothes (Nov-Mar for evenings).
