W.I.L.D GIRLGUIDING UK CELEBRATES

100 YEARS Girlguiding is a vibrant and up-to-date organisation that relates to today’s young girls and women. The organisation owes its success to the involvement and commitment of its many volunteers.

Last year, Girlguiding UK celebrated its centenary with many activities and events being carried out all over the country. Girlguiding West Glamorgan will celebrate 100 years in 2012. As part of the UK’s celebration and in preparation for the county celebration, they have published their own book, A Century of Promises. The preparations started a number of years ago; the then archivist for Girlguiding West Glamorgan, Rhona Ray, assembled a great deal of information, facts and nostalgia. Her excellent work has been continued by June Shakeshaft, the current archivist, who is extremely proud of the newly published book that was launched on Sept 24 at the Civic Centre, Swansea. As part of the celebration, Girlguiding West Glamorgan also collected memories from all units in West Glamorgan including many photographs that have been pulled together to make up this book. The book includes 204 pages of fascinating facts and photographs in both colour and mono about today’s members as well as those in the past. The publisher is David Roberts of Bryngold Books and this great read has been printed locally by Gomer Press of Llandysul.

You can purchase your copy of A Century of Promises through any of the local Girlguiding units or at Cover to Cover, Mumbles.

It’s easy... Anyone can laugh and there is no need for a sense of humour or jokes! You do not need to feel happy to laugh because laughter is performed as an exercise in a group.
