by Robyn Hatch Haigh School celebrated their annual Harvest Festival. After eating pizza and
snacks, dancing to crazy music, face painting, running around nonstop, the children were ready to go home and get some sleep. The PTA sponsored event drew about 100 participants. Halloween costumes were everywhere, from the simple ghost to bleeding characters. Imagination played out in the face painting. There were a lot of creative kids in the crowd.

Kelly Ayotte and tour the White House. Londonderry High School and Pinkerton High School will be traveling with Salem down to the event, Courtois noted, saying he would not be the only chaperone on the trip. The group from Salem would consist of four sophomores and four juniors. Sophomore Class President Kristen Foster addressed the board about activities at the conference. “We’re going to have great speakers at the LEAD conference,” she said, adding there will be team building exercises, community service projects, and bullying prevention education. Student Council President Joseph Sweeney spoke about three summer conferences he had attended in the state. “These conferences
were a big part if what made me the student leader I am today,” he said. Sweeney acknowledged learning about how councils all over the country operate and solve problems in ways his council hadn’t thought of. Funding for the trip would cost each member $500, plus additional meals and transportation outside of traveling to the conference. Courtois said the council didn’t have a mechanism to fund the trip, but was working to obtain sponsors. The conference will have about 800 to 1,000 attendees. The board voted to allow students to attend the trip.

Peter Beeley Arrives at School in Style
On Tuesday morning, members of the Salem Fire Department drove Peter Beeley to school. Earlier this the month, Peter and his family had attended an open house at the fire department and Peter won the drawing the fire department had for a ride to school in a fire truck. Peter had been talking about this exciting opportunity since he found out he won two weeks ago! The day was more then the family anticipated as Peter’s entire second grade class, along with his teacher Mrs. Meisser, were waiting for him outside of Haigh School and cheered at his arrival!
Special thanks go to firefighters Dan Donovan and Joe Scanlon who went above and beyond to make this a special day for Peter.
