Brooks Take a step back in time

Continued from Page B10 Although it has slowed down heading into winter, the Visitor Centre is still open Mondays to Fridays and has free admission to the museum. Camp sites are open year-round and although programming isn’t offered, there are many self-guided trails. It’s also free to enter the park year round. Along with the usual excavations of prehistoric remains which happen

there is also other research taking place in the park including learning more about rattlesnakes, bats and the cottonwood trees. During the summer, some of the more popular programs include heading into the non-public areas of the park and taking part in an actual excavation. While a little more pricey, the experience is one that visitors likely won’t be able to get anywhere else. Program registration can be done online, and Tucker encourages people to sign up early. All programs are on sale at the end of February, so vacations for next year can be planned now and booked through the spring. Tucker especially wants to see more local residents take in the beauty and history of the badlands in Dinosaur Provincial Park. “We’re a globally-recognized park (UNESCO World Heritage Site),” says

Tucker. “If you haven’t been here and you live nearby, what are you waiting for — come. There are some amazing things to see in the world and some of them are right here in your backyard.”
