Sex and the fossil record The Kimberley’s 380 million year old Great Devonian Reef has preserved some of the best fossils in the world. Ancient fish once swam in this reef and their fossils have revealed their reproductive strategies. New technology has revealed that Materpiscis – the mother fish – contained the perfectly preserved bones of an embryo and a tiny umbilical cord showing that she not only gave birth to live young but also was able to nurture them. Join one of Perth’s most engaging and awarded scientists Dr Kate Trinajstic and see the incredible imaging technology that made these discoveries possible. Wed 8 Feb 7-8pm CC284-21096 $19
