A Look Inside I Am Not My Hair

or women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, Octo- ber is often a month filled with emotion.
At some point in our lives, every woman will experience a life
changing moment. The pronouncement that: “You have breast cancer,” was that point
for 29 year-old Tyesha Love, who was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer in 2007.
For Tyesha, breast cancer was a family affair. Her great-grandmoth-
er (deceased), grandmother (deceased), mother (3-time survivor) and two great aunts (one deceased, one survivor) were all diagnosed with cancer.
I Am Not My Hair illustrates Tyesha’s battle with breast cancer,
telling her story from diagnosis and treatment to triumph. The book offers an uncensored look into the soul of a survivor offering caregivers, loved ones, medical practitioners and fellow survivors a glimpse of the thoughts that run through a breast cancer patient’s mind.
Read it and you will discover the power of perseverance and an abil-
ity to prevail despite the odds. “I knew that people loved me,” says Love. “But from the day I was
first diagnosed, I truly began to realize just how much I meant to people and how significant I was in the lives of others.”
October reminds us all that it’s time to take care of ourselves.
