AUM


In 2007 a proposal was made to create an AUM Gala event as well as an AUM Hall of Fame, a proposal that was originally rejected by the AUM’s board of direc- tors. However, the following year, when the AUM developed a Strategic Plan for 2008-2012, these ideas were revisited. One objective of the AUM’s Strategic Plan was to improve its members’ sense of belonging within and attachment to the AUM. An annual Gala social event and a presentation of Hall of Fame inductees at this event fit perfectly with this objective.


Te initial goal of the Hall of Fame was


to acknowledge the contributions of the AUM’s founders and the early pioneers of Ultimate in the Montreal region in the early 1990’s. Hall of Fame inductees, who are introduced at the annual Gala, receive a lifetime AUM membership and a commemorative plaque in their honour.


– the undisputed queen of the slag cheer. Te other 2009 inductees were Tony Boyd (unanimous selection) and Cathy (Kattsee) Janvier in the Player category, and longtime AUM organizers Stephane Jacques and Ken Hunt in the Contributor category.


History’s In the Hall of Fame’s inaugural year


(2008), there were two categories – Contributors and Players. Te inductees were legendary AUM founders Luc Drouin and Lorne Beckman (both unanimous selections) in the Contributor category, and also Mark (Shaggy) Zimmerl and Sue Farquhar in the Player category.


In 2009, a Special Merit/Spirit category


was added in an attempt to be more inclu- sive and more reflective of the reality of Ultimate in the Montreal region. Te first inductee in this new category was Mila Oh


In 2010, the Special Merit/Spirit cate-


gory was divided into two distinct catego- ries. Furthermore, the Hall of Fame’s four categories were split into two groups, with Player and Special Merit considered in even numbered years, and Contributor and Spirit considered in odd years. Te only inductee in 2010 was Jason Pospisil in the Player category.


Inductees for 2011 in the Contributor and Spirit categories will be presented at the Gala on October 22, 2011.
