ina*, a mother of four in Westlake, remembers when her oldest was 15. Heading out to dinner with the ex-


tended family, the teen picked on his youngest brother. She took his phone away, but that didn’t set-


tle it. At the restaurant, the grandfather asked what was wrong when he saw the gloomy look on his face. “He wouldn’t answer, so his little brother told


his grandfather that his brother was a sourpuss today. Tat was enough to make my 15-year- old stand up and say, ‘I’m outta here,’ and walk home. And it was about a 40 minute walk!” Some parents face major mood swings with


their teens; as teens navigate their relationships with parents, school, and peers, hormones and sleep needs rage on in the background.
