Food Partnership news Welcome

Welcome to the autumn issue of City Food News. September is always a busy month with the Food Festival, schools returning after the summer break, the start of many of our healthy weight and cookery programmes and an abundant harvest time. We hope to see many of you at the events we are

involved in during September, particular dates for your diary are:

nThe Big Sussex Market in Pavillion Gardens on Sun 11th Sept 10 am – 6 pm

nLocal Food Week Picnic in Preston Park on Sat 17th Sept 11.30 am – 3 pm

Spade to Spoon, the city’s food strategy and action plan is currently being refreshed and there will be a stakeholder consultation event on 5th October. This will be an opportunity to input into the strategy and action plan. The document which outlines a partnership approach to achieving a healthy and sustainable food system for the city will consider what we need to do so that:

nPeople in Brighton & Hove eat a healthier and more sustainable diet

nThere is a reduction in health inequalities associated with a poor diet

nThe city has a vibrant local food economy with a variety of thriving businesses

nThe amount of GHG emissions that can be attributed to our food system are reduced

nThere is a reduction in the numbers of people experiencing food poverty

nThe amount of avoidable food waste and packaging relating to food that is thrown away is minimised

nComposting at home, at work and in communities increases

nMore food consumed in the city is grown, produced and processed locally

nLocal food is celebrated and enjoyed

It is intended that the Food Strategy will go to the Local Strategic Partnership for approval by the end of the year. More details about the refresh of the strategy will be sent to members by email in September or get in touch if you want to be involved.

Best wishes from all the team at the Food P
