Mind Exercise Nutrition…


Following the success of last term’s MEND (Mind Exercise Nutrition…Do it!) childhood weight management programme, the course will re- commence in the new school year. With one in three children in


Brighton and Hove above a healthy weight, the MEND programme aims to help local families become fitter, healthier and happier. The 10-week after-school


programme, run by the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership in conjunction with NHS Brighton and Hove and Albion in the Community, is held at various locations for children aged 5- 7 and 7-13 across Brighton and Hove. At the programme, local families with children learn about nutrition and how to maintain a balanced diet


and children take part in fun games and activities. The free course, which was


developed in partnership with child health experts at Great Ormond Street Hospital, also includes a visit to the local supermarket where the children and their parents learn how to read food labels. The children did brilliantly last


term. 9 children completed the programme, 5 of which had an improved Body Mass Index measurement by the end of the course. On completing the course, the group enjoyed a trip to 9 Rooms Karaoke, who kindly gave us a free session at their club. The programme created many friendships and participants are keen
