VOLUME 1, PART 2 FEATURES introduction
When the Cornwall College STEM Project began in November 2010, the word, or rather the acronym, STEM was a bit of an unknown. Some heads of schools and colleges, and some industries with their finger on the education pulse were aware of it but it hadn’t reached the masses. Now it feels like everyone is talking about it, and critically, understanding just how important STEM skills are. It’s a really exciting time for everyone involved in these subjects and although it may take a year or two for it to have an impact on the national skill set and ultimately our economy, we can for now enjoy a lot of successes along the way.
In this edition of the STEM Journal you’ll find a report from our return visit to the jungle of Borneo. There’s been some great activity with Cornwall College’s partner schools which features national competition success and the hugely successful Solar Car Challenge and Greenpower event.
