professionals are facing unprecedented challenges in today’s shipping industry and Nautilus International works to protect them in the workplace and to ensure they get the respect they deserve.


‘Protect & Respect’ is therefore the theme of the Union’s 2011 General Meeting (GM) — your opportunity to help set the course for Nautilus and to determine strategies and policies for its work on behalf of maritime professionals.

The 2011 GM is being held in the Dutch maritime city of


Rotterdam and will take place between 3 and 6 October. The GM is the Union’s major policy-making forum, giving full members the chance to decide priorities for the next few years and to debate the important issues that affect the industry in which you work. Members attending the meeting will discuss motions submitted by members on a wide range of crucial topics, set out on the following pages. But it’s not all hard work. Based on feedback from members who have attended previous GMs, we have chosen an appropriate venue for the conference and created a streamlined agenda that provides more relaxed opportunities for you to participate in the proceedings. Special guest speakers from the highest levels of the shipping industry will be speaking on subjects such as criminalisation and safety regulation — with an opportunity for you to take part in question and answer sessions. The 2011 GM will be the fi rst Union-wide conference since the formation of Nautilus International in 2009, and will provide members from the UK and the Netherlands with a great opportunity to get together and further cement the bonds of unity.


The conference is being


held at the Hilton hotel in Rotterdam’s city centre. Members will assemble on the afternoon and evening of Monday 3 October, then the conference proper will open on Tuesday and conclude on Wednesday 5 October,


with members departing the following morning. We want as many members as possible to be there — to contribute your views and your experiences to the debates and discussion. To encourage a representative


cross-section of members from throughout the industry to take part in the conference, Nautilus International can provide help with travel and accommodation costs. Fill in and return the form on this page to apply for assistance.

In de hedendaagse scheepvaartindustrie worden maritieme


professionals met ongekende uitdagingen geconfronteerd. Nautilus International zet zich in om hen op het werk te beschermen en te garanderen dat zij het respect krijgen dat zij verdienen.


Het overkoepelende thema van de Algemene Vergadering (AV) 2011 van Nautilus International is dan ook 'Bescherming en respect’ — dit is uw kans om mee te denken en te beslissen over de koers van de Vakbond, en de strategieën en het beleid op het vlak van ons werk voor maritieme professionals.

De AV 2011 vindt van 3 tot en met 6 oktober plaats in de bekende


havenstad Rotterdam. De AV is het belangrijkste


forum voor de beleidsvorming binnen Nautilus. Als volledig betalend lid kunt u hier meebeslissen over de prioriteiten voor de komende jaren en van gedachten wisselen over kwesties die belangrijk zijn binnen onze bedrijfstak. De aanwezigen zullen de moties bespreken die onze leden over een breed scala aan belangrijke onderwerpen hebben ingediend, en die u op de volgende pagina’s kunt teruglezen.


Maar er is ook ruimte


voor ontspanning. Met de feedback van leden die eerdere


AV’s hebben bijgewoond in het achterhoofd, hebben we een geschikte locatie voor het ledencongres gekozen en een gestroomlijnde agenda opgesteld, met meer mogelijkheden om op ontspannen wijze deel te nemen aan de diverse activiteiten. Speciale gastsprekers met


invloedrijke functies binnen de scheepvaartindustrie zullen er spreken over onderwerpen als criminalisering en beveiligingsvoorschriften —


waarbij er tijdens de vraag- en antwoordsessies natuurlijk ook ruimte is voor uw inbreng. De AV 2011 is het eerste ledencongres sinds de oprichting van Nautilus International in 2009. Het is een uitgelezen kans voor onze leden uit het VK en Nederland om de onderlinge banden binnen de vakbond aan te halen. Het ledencongres vindt


plaats in het Hilton hotel, in het centrum van Rotterdam. De leden komen op maandag 3


oktober in de middag en avond samen. De conferentie gaat op dinsdag van start en eindigt op woensdag 5 oktober, waarna de leden de volgende ochtend weer vertrekken. We willen dat er zoveel


mogelijk leden aanwezig zijn, zodat iedereen de kans krijgt om zijn of haar visie en ervaringen tijdens de discussies en debatten naar voren te brengen. Wij vinden het belangrijk


dat er een representatieve doorsnede van volledig


betalende leden uit de gehele bedrijfstak aanwezig is, en daarom kan Nautilus fi nanciële ondersteuning bieden bij de reis- en verblijfskosten. U kunt zich hiervoor opgeven d.m.v. het formulier op deze pagina. Grijp deze kans en laat uw stem horen tijdens het democra- tische proces van de vakbond.
