Development

I would like to take the opportunity once again to thank all those who continue to support the Development Office as we seek to raise funds to support the boys of Bristol in their quest for a QEH education.

With the economic situation as it is, the need for financial support is ever increasing and thus bursary funding remains a priority. When interviewing prospective boys for Year 7 (First Form!) the need was driven home to me by one boy, who, when I asked him about his family and why he wanted to come to the school, replied that his father had recently died and he wanted to make him proud by coming to QEH. Clearly, here was a boy who could not make it without assistance. Particular thanks must go to the Old Boy’s Society and their committee for their continued support and to their President Paddy Kilmartin for his expert hosting of the dinners.

Sadly, we are losing the services of John Colley as he moves on to set up his own business. John as an Old Boy is a great

supporter and fan of the school in his own right and I am particularly grateful to him for his initiation of Annual Funds and for the organising of countless dinners and reunions. He also oversaw the updating of the database and the general administration, which remains a mystery to me. Andrew Lewis-Barned is now adding greater involvement in Development to his portfolio to help to fill the gap.

The Regional Dinner season went well with events in Leeds, Cambridge and London. The northern dinner was not very well attended but we have a good crop of leavers heading north to university who are keen to attend next year; we are therefore aiming for an increased turnout. In London we teamed up with Red Maids’ once again at the East India Club and a great evening was had by all. We are

currently planning dates and venues for next year - look out for details on the website. The timings will be very much like last year, so keep your diary free.

We have also welcomed back Old Boys for reunions and are hoping to attract a big turnout in November for the Annual Dinner in school on Remembrance weekend. If any Old Boys are thinking of coming, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the office for help; we can arrange tours in the afternoon.

In conclusion, thank you again for your support. The school year ended with the receipt of a very generous legacy from the family of an Old Boy and this will go a long way to support yet another QEH boy in the future.
