President’s Message…
With the help of NCBA This month I would like to share with all of you
a monumental event I was a part of that will certainly be a day I shall never forget. Many of you may know from reading the FCA E-news or our Face book page that I testified last month in front of the United States House of Represen- tatives, Committee on Agriculture, Subcommit- tee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry This commit- tee is chaired by our own Florida Congressman Thomas Rooney. I was there to testify on a number of different topics affecting cattle pro- ducers in Florida and across the United States. It is one thing to address your fellow produc-

are spent, I assure you they are spent well! The NCBA office in Washington, DC is headed by Colin Woodall and his passionate, knowledge- able, professional staff is first rate. I am not a real easy man to impress, but I can tell you I was very impressed and most appreciative to the NCBA staff. They spent many hours (literally) helping me and two other cattle industry repre- sentatives, prepare for this testimony. I testified alongside Mrs. Anne Burkholder
of Will-Feed Inc., in Cozad, Nebraska, a fam- ily owned feeding facility and Mr. Ken Bull, rep- resenting Cargill. Anne and I became friends throughout this experience and she did a won- derful job with her comments to the commit- tee. She is a testament to the strong, impressive women that are involved in our industry. It was obvious that Ken Bull is a very knowledgeable and quite comfortable speaking on behalf of our industry as well. I would like to thank Kristina Butts and her col- leagues at NCBA who helped prepare our posi- tion statements which included oral and writ- ten testimony. I told her on several occasions that I wish all of our members could have this experience, I believe they would come to truly appreciate what NCBA does for its members. These folks are professionals in every sense of the word. AnotherNCBAstaffmemberinWash- ington that I had the pleasure meeting is Mrs. Anna Lee. She is the Director of the NCBA PAC. In a previous position She worked with a man by the name of Andy Guest, who was in the Virginia Assembly. Even though Andy died sev- eral years ago, I recognized the name well, He was the father of my friend and hunting com- panion, Raymond Guest from Sarasota. The Guest family raised cattle in Virginia and Andy were well thought of by Anna Lee and the people that knew him. Regardless of where we may travel, we find Cattle people and mutual
