been found to be highly successful for pasture plantings in Florida. It is naturally reseeding, annual legume adapted to Florida’s wet sands and heavy soils. Numerous tests

conducted by various government agencies indicate that aeschynomene is one of the most highly desirable summer legumes for Florida’s conditions. Here’s why…

The fact that cattle prefer aeschynomene is unquestioned. In fact, they like it so well, and it’s so easy for them to digest aeschynomene, that it should be used in a controlled management operation to prevent overgrazing.

• EXCEPTIONAL TONNAGE YIELDS Over 12 tons per acre of forage (as a green standing crop) have been produced in test locations. Yields of over 3.5 tons of dry matter have been obtained. These figures are obtainable in most well-managed cattle operations in Florida. The high yields allow cattle

• SOIL BUILDING CAPABILITIES Aeschynomene is an excellent fixer of atmospheric nitrogen, and will supply much of it to plants growing with it. Roots of companion crops share the nitrogen gathered by this legume. An all around better balanced mixture is the result. Aeschynomene can also be used as a cover crop to provide nitrogen and abundant organic material to Florida soils.

WILDLIFE

Aeschynomene is a re-seeding annual tropical legume native to the southeast. It can be planted in both wet lands and areas subject to flooding. Because Aeschynomene is very high in protein, it is an excellent crop for deer, duck, quail and doves. Mature plants reach 3 to 6 ft. in height. Use with type “EL” inoculant and plant 15 to 20 lbs. per acre.
