Pleasant Home is a National Historic Landmark building designed in 1897 by not- ed Prairie School architect George W. Maher for invest- ment banker and philanthro- pist John W. Farson. Pleasant Home is one of the earliest and most distinguished ex- amples of Prairie architecture in the country and has one of the best-preserved interiors of that design era.
Visitors experience the ex- traordinary art glass, custom furniture, intricately carved woodwork and unique design details in this historical and architectural treasure through guided tours. The Pleasant Home Foundation (PHF), a non-profit organization estab- lished in 1990, is dedicated to restoring, preserving and operating this 30-room archi- tectural landmark as a historic house museum.

The building is fully air-conditioned. The first floor is home to the Heming- way Museum. The auditorium is used by many groups: mu- sic school piano recitals, local private school graduations, religious groups, college ori- entations and it is the Oak Park home of Christian Youth Theatre which presents 3 pro- ductions annually. The facility is ideal for recitals, concerts, lectures, meetings, recep- tions, etc.
