Fireworks night to go off with a bang I

t wouldn‘t be November without bonfire night and My Abbots News was pleased to be able to

help the Watford Lions ensure they could once again put on an absolutely cracker fireworks display this year. My Abbots News has donated £1,000 to the

Lions, collected over the past year from the £1 cover price of magazines sold in the village. Lions president Cheryl Peacock said the

financial boost had been most welcome. She said: ―We were absolutely delighted

because we have had problems with financing the firework display. ―For the last two years we‘ve just had terrible weather, it has completely rained and rained and

our collections on the night have not really been sufficient to cover costs. So this year we were taking some of the money we made from the carnival to subsidise the firework display. ―We were going to have to cut down the length

of the display because we just really didn‘t have the funds – prices of everything has gone up and it‘s a lot of money. ―We‘ve now gone from a ten minute display to

a 15 minute display, so hopefully the people of Abbots Langley and surrounding areas will come out and give us some donations on the night to pay for next year‘s display.‖ The fireworks are on Friday, November 4, at the Manor House Playing Fields.
