October 14, 2011 - 11 Salem Patriot Sports Soccer Teams Earn Important Victories Salem’s James Ota (#3), Matt Sanchez (#9), and Mike Ronsivalli (#6) rise to meet the ball against the Keene defense by Chris White

Both Salem High varsity soccer teams were in action at Timberlane’s homecoming day last

Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils ended up playing the spoiler role, as each Salem team prevailed in extra time - the Salem girls by the

score of 3-2 and the Salem boys in a 1-0 shutout. Salem’s Tyler Donahue provided the lone goal in the boys’ game off an assist from teammate Jordan Bowman in overtime. Salem keeper Andrew Zani also had four saves in the winning effort. It was an important win for the Blue Devils as they were looking to bounce back from a 4-0 shutout loss to Keene a week earlier. Tayllar Righini led the way for Salem with two goals in the girls’ game. Jess Keane also contributed a goal, while Jersey Burns provided an assist. Salem goalie Rachel Blazich turned in a solid effort in front of the net as she recorded eight saves. The win at Timberlane was the third in a row for the Salem girls as they shutout Alvirne 1-0 and Keene 2-0 in their two previous contests. Brianna Tan scored Salem’s only goal against Alvirne and Burns notched both goals against Keene. Keane and Righini

each provided Burns with an assist against the Blackbirds, while Harley Chute, Brenna Blakslee, and Katie Page contributed strong efforts on defense. With the win against Timberlane, the Salem girls stand at a record of 7-4-1.
