to pay dirt. Tony Beaulieu tacked on the extra point for the 7-7 tie. To everyone’s surprise, the

Broncos perfectly executed an onside kick when Aaron Lavoie recovered the ball at midfield giving the Broncos great field position, but they were unable to convert, punting the ball to the Winnacunnet 10 yard line.

Defensive back Lucas Notini goes vertical to come up with a big interception against Winnacunnet

by Sue LaRoche The Broncos improved their record to 2-3 in

Division 2 football (3-3 overall) with an overall “great team effort from the players and coaches,” said Head Coach Bob Nimblett. They had a 14-7 victory over Winnacunnet on Friday, October 7. The Broncos forced three fumbles (recoveries

made by Lucas Notini, Tyler Dube, and Benjamin McCarthy - after a strip from Brandon Rule) and made one interception (Lucas Notini) in the first half, however the game remained scoreless when the teams went to the locker rooms at halftime. Winnacunnet opened the scoring with a 3-yard run to take a 7-0 lead with 6:37 gone in the third quarter. Again, Alvirne forced a fumble on their own 35 yard line with Ethan Baily recovering the miscue this time, and the Broncos were able to convert with 1:05 remaining driving the ball down the field on five plays. Quarterback Josh Cohen connected with Kevin Pierre on a 6-yard pass to get the Broncos rolling. Brandon Rule then ripped off runs of 13 and 18 yards putting the ball in Winnacunnet territory. Chase Clark then finished the deal on runs of 21 and 9 yards, taking the ball

Again, the defense came through and forced another fumble, this one recovered by Tyler Dube (his second fumble recovery of the night) and this time, the Broncos made Winnacunnet pay for their error. Again, Cohen hit Kevin Pierre for a 7-yard gain followed by runs of 1 yard (Clark), 3 yards (Cohen) and 17, 1 and 28 yards to the endzone by Brandon Rule. Again, Tony Beaulieu added the

extra point giving Alvirne the 14-7 lead with 5:26 to go in the game. “The key was the turnovers we caused. Defense did a great job with their assignments, and tackled well this week,” complimented Nimblett. The Bronco defense held tough causing another turnover (second fumble recovery by Benjamin McCarthy) and forced Winnacunnet to turn the ball over on downs with 1:12 remaining to seal the victory. Josh Cohen went 5 for 12 for 91 yards including

a 53-yard completion to Kevin Pierre in the second quarter. Brandon Rule led the Broncos with 99 yards and one touchdown followed by Chase Clark with 48 yards and one touchdown. The Broncos defense stepped up causing a total of six turnovers and besides those recovering fumbles, Britton Doyle, Ryan Bellerose, Brandon Rule and Ethan Bailey all played great defense. Alvirne will travel to Pelham on Friday, October 14 (non- divisional opponent), and will have their final home contest on Friday October 21 against Spaulding.
