Broncos were prepared for the undefeated Little Green who came in averaging four goals per game and only giving up one goal per game. The match started off with both teams testing each other trying to find an opportunity to gain an advantage. Midway through the first half Central was able to get the upper hand when they crossed a ball through the box that the Bronco defense could not clear and beat Alvirne goalie Jimmy Tomaswick on the far side giving Central a 1-0 lead which held until halftime. Tomaswick had a solid game in net turning away 11 shots from the high powered offense of the Little Green, achieving his 500th save in his four year varsity career at Alvirne and helping to hold Central scoreless in the second half. The Broncos poured on the offensive attack midway through the second half keeping the Central defense on their heels. Alvirne’s best scoring opportunity came with eight minutes left in the game as sophomore PJ Busnach maneuvered through the Central defense and got a shot off that just missed wide of the goal. Senior Corey Landry and junior PJ Martineau both got two shots on goal in the second half but the Broncos just could not find the back of the net.
Defensively seniors Zach Melanson and Tyler Lambert had solid games. On Tuesday the Londonderry Lancers traveled
to Alvirne for a match against the Broncos. Both teams combined for five shots on goal in the first half none of which resulted in a goal. Londonderry came out in the second half and put a lot of pressure on the Bronco defense getting off three shots on goal in the first two minutes of the half. The pressure finally resulted in a scoring opportunity for the Lancers as Alvirne’s defense lapsed and Londonderry was able to score six minutes into the second half. Ten minutes later the Lancers got on the board again when they crossed ball in the box which was chipped into the weak side of the net. Alvirne was able to cut the lead in half when senior Corey Landry hit junior Richie Eaton with a pass that Eaton was able to get by the Lancer goalie. Londonderry was able to find the net a third time with eight minutes left in the game off a rebound from a save made by senior Jimmy Tomaswick (13 saves). The 3-1 loss drops Alvirne to 3-8-1 on the season and with four games remaining in the season the Broncos are looking for a winning streak to get into the playoffs.
