|News & Know How| On The Move Programming CFF Welcomes ‘I Am Kid Fit’
California Family Fitness (CFF), the Sacramento, California–based chain of full-service clubs serving over 100,000 members, has launched a new children’s program called I Am Kid Fit. The program, which is offered to children ages 4 to 11, encourages physical fitness among the clubs’ youngest members and teaches families that exercise is not only good for the body, but also fun!
Program activities include Boot ‘We are Fit Kids’
Camp, Noodle Hockey, Ball Games, Parachute Play, Dodgeball, Wiggle, Giggle and Shake, Tuck and Roll, Scooter Fun, Kids in Motion, and Monster Mash. I Am Kid Fit dovetails with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, which helps children establish healthy eating habits, engage in physical activity, and live a balanced lifestyle. “CFF is very supportive of the First
Lady’s fight against childhood obesity, and we applaud her for her tremendous
efforts to bring awareness to this epidemic,” says Randy Karr, president of CFF. “In addition to the standard services we offer kids, we have created programs like I Am Kid Fit, as well as additional 60-minute fitness classes that include a variety of activities, such as relay races, jump rope, free-style dance, hula hoop, basketball, and outdoor sports.”—|
Renovations Midtown Tennis Club Reborn
Midtown Tennis Club, the world-renowned indoor tennis facility based in Chicago, Illinois, has completed a renovation and expansion project big enough to prompt a name change. After tripling the size of its fitness space, the club has changed its name to Midtown Athletic Club. The club becomes the 10th facility in the Chicago-based Tennis Corporation of America chain to adopt the Midtown Athletic moniker.
Midtown Athletic Club Midtown’s new 10,000-square-foot
fitness area features a new group exercise studio, strength-training area, a cardio section with over 30 machines, a dedicated cycling studio, and a Pilates studio. “Our goal is to administer health
and fitness programming in the same world-class manner that our members have become accustomed to on the tennis side,” said Michael Mahoney, senior vice president and general manager of Midtown Athletic Club. “The
new space is something our current members have sought for some time. We are hopeful that it will also generate a spike in new memberships.” —|
The company has 420 clubs nationwide with
more than 30 in San Diego County alone. The three relocations will account for 153,000 square feet of club space. A few of the improvements to these multipurpose facilities include enhanced personal training services, a full schedule of group exercise classes, and kids’ club activities and daycare ser- vices for infants and children up to 12 years old.—|

24 Hour Invests $20 Million in San Diego Facilities
24 Hour Fitness, the fitness club chain and industry leader based in San Ramon, California, recently announced significant expansion plans for three of its locations in San Diego, California. It will relocate its Balboa, Westfield University Towne Center, and Westfield Plaza Camino Real facilities to larger quarters nearby and transform them into “Super-Sport” clubs. The expansion and upgrade project represents one of the most substantial market investments the company has made within the last five years. “Expansion is always exciting for our company,
but even more so today because we have deep ties to the residents of San Diego, many of whom have been members for more than 20 years,” said Jim McPhail, executive vice president of real estate and chief development officer at 24 Hour Fitness. “We’re confident that these relocations and upgrades will greatly improve our members’ club experience, while also continuing to provide them with the access, convenience, and value they’ve come to expect from 24 Hour Fitness.”
