IHRSA 2012 Keynoters Confirmed Taylor, Sinek, and Kawasaki headline an all-about-business lineup

hough the setting is Hollywood, the entertainment capital of the world, the focus of IHRSA’s 31st Annual International Convention and Trade Show is all about business. The three keynote speakers, recently announced by IHRSA, will share dynamic, cutting-edge ideas and insights on critical business issues, such as motivation, innovation, and management, with special relevance for the health and fitness industry.

The featured presenters at IHRSA 2012, which will be held March 14-17 in Los Angeles, are:

• William Taylor, the founding editor of Fast Company and a best-selling author (presentation sponsored by Matrix Fitness).

• Simon Sinek, an author and the founder of Sinek, Inc., which works to develop “the next generation of great leaders” (sponsored by Precor).

• Guy Kawasaki, an author, cofounder of Alltop.com, founding partner of Garage Technology Ventures, and former Chief Evangelist for Apple, Inc. (sponsored by Technogym).

Taylor, who, in less than six years, grew Fast Company from a startup venture into a company that sold for $340 million, is the author of five books on business. The best known, Practically Radical: Not-So-Crazy Ways to Transform Your Company, Shake Up Your Industry, and Challenge Yourself, is based on his in-depth analysis of 25 firms and the factors that helped them to compete, innovate, and succeed. Business guru Daniel H. Pink, a former IHRSA convention presenter, described it as “the most powerful and instructive change manual you’ll ever read.” Taylor’s address, based on Practically Radical, will take place on March 14. Sinek, an ethnographer by training, has spent a lifetime studying corporations and leaders to discover why they do what they do, and why some are more successful and have a greater impact than others. He’s shared his ideas with a wide range of individuals and entities, from members of Congress, to Microsoft Corp. and the New York City Ballet, and encapsulated them in his 2009 bestseller, Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Action. He’ll discuss the topic on March 15. Kawasaki, an entrepreneur, consultant, venture capitalist, and the author of 10 books, including Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions, a New York Times bestseller, is regarded as a world-class expert on motivation. He’ll explore the business implications of Enchant- ment on March 16. —|
