This year 15 children have been rescued from trafficking gangs

Case Study:

13 year old Suraya has one brother and her father runs a fishing business. She enjoys playing badminton and wants to be a nurse when she’s older.

I knew a little bit about child trafficking from watching TV but I didn’t know it practically. I know now in great detail how to prevent child trafficking. The training has helped me feel safer; I feel protected. Previously the issue was ignored here. Now, women’s and children’s rights are more respected. I feel more valued.

Case study:

In January 2011 a 14 year old girl called Farzana was rescued from a gang of child traffickers who abducted her from her home in the Satkhira District. Having attended an awareness raising session, Farzana remembered the phone number for the abduction helpline and was able to contact the watch committee. The Community Facilitator contacted the police and together they were able to find Farzana and take her back home.

Farzana’s grandmother thought she would never see her granddaughter again. “The community has been a huge support to us. Everyone has got involved and worked hard to find Farzana and bring her safely home to me. I am so happy, I thought I had lost my granddaughter forever but now she is back with me”.

Farzana now lives with her grandmother and is back at school. On returning home Farzana said:

I want to continue my studies to become a teacher so that I can educate more children about the real dangers of child and women trafficking.
