Welcome to the Business School

and industry creates a buoyant demand for our graduates and we have a strong record on employability and in the support we provide to our students and graduates in finding the right careers.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Business School of the University of Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire is one of a new generation of universities committed to preparing students for international careers and responding to the new skills needs of employment in a globalised world. Here, we put students and business at the core of everything we do and this is reflected in the courses we offer, the placement and study abroad opportunities and the excellent employment record of our graduates.

The Business School is located in a ‘state of the art’ campus on the de Havilland site, with excellent teaching and learning resources and on campus accommodation - yet is only a short distance from central London and the historic city of St Albans.

We offer a diverse and exciting portfolio of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as an established programme of continuing professional development and short courses for business, public services and the professions. Our strong links with business, public services and industry are reflected in the professional exemptions and memberships, which many of our courses enjoy. All of our courses offer work placement opportunities and our staff are closely engaged in short course and consultancy work. The benefits of this close liaison with the professions

Today, we live in a global society and it is important that our teaching, learning, research and business activity operate within a genuinely international context. At the Business School, we benefit from students and staff from all over the world, and relationships with many international organisations and educational institutions. All of our courses give the opportunity for international experience, from education visits and field trips to study abroad for a semester or a whole year at one of our partner universities, as well as work placements overseas.

The School has an excellent reputation for the academic and applied research undertaken by its staff. Staff are actively engaged in research in a wide variety of areas relating to the structure and functioning of economies and businesses, human resources, employment relations, personal and organisation development and creativity and innovation. The quality of this research is recognised by many external bodies, funding agencies and sponsors, and, of course, underpins the teaching and learning on our courses.

I trust this gives you a flavour of the range of opportunities open to you at the Business School. I hope you will take time to explore these further in this brochure or on the website and come along to one of our open days.

I look forward to working with you and sharing expertise, creativity and passion that we have in the Business School at the University of Hertfordshire.

Julie Newlan Dean of the Business School
