An increasing number of contemporary, global brands are looking for innovative applications that will help them save energy, keep electricity bills to a minimum, and reduce CO² emissions. As a result, LED lighting is becoming more widely used commercially.


Car showrooms in particular are progressively using LED lighting to their advantage, with many converting their traditional lighting to LED in the race towards environmentally sound high quality lighting – and BMW is leading the way. With an image of efficiency and modernity


to maintain across all of its showroom facilities, BMW chose Harvard Engineering’s CoolLED drivers to help maintain its contemporary image during a revamp at the BMW showroom in Rome. While the showroom required two different


lux levels – 600 lux for the general lighting and 800-900 lux on the cars – the overall appearance of the lighting had to be consistent throughout the showroom. In addition, it had to meet BMW’s strict specifications in terms of energy efficiency. BMW further required a low-maintenance


scheme that would perform well throughout the design life of the project, for at least five years. With LED lighting driving a wave of innovation that is bringing major improvements in efficiency, performance, and


longevity, it offered the best long-term solution. Harvard Engineering, as a world leader in


the design, development and manufacturing of LED drivers and supplier of some of the most innovative and efficient products for commercial and retail lighting applications, along with project partners Projection Lighting – whose AlphaLED Gyro Cube range was specified for the project, and Xicato – developer, manufacturer and global marketer of LED modules, was able to successfully meet all of BMW’s expectations through the installation of its high performance and high efficiency CoolLED drivers. The success of this project serves as proof
