Guide

to the Lighting of Licensed Premises

The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) has published a new illustrated guide covering the lighting of licensed premises. It will be of interest to anyone who operates a restaurant or bar, whether in a sports club, a village inn or a bustling city centre pub. This guide is an indispensable aid to those involved in the design, fit-out and refurbishment of licensed premises. It covers existing buildings, new buildings and conversions, explaining the various methods of lighting a space, and the different types of light source - including LEDs - and their advantages.

For further information on achieving this

qualification, please visit www.theilp.org.uk.

The guide is written in

non-technical language, with plenty of diagrams and colour photographs compiled by a group of lighting experts who all have experience designing lighting for bars, pubs and restaurants. Guidance is provided on meeting legal

requirements relating to lighting: Building Regulations Part L imposes specific demands for the

energy-efficiency of lighting, likewise there are minimum requirements for emergency lighting. “The new guide explains why lighting is important for licensed
