John Bright - Alive & Kicking
Was John Bright a hero, a villain or simply an enigma? Wednesday 16 November 2011
• Join us for a unique combination of live debate, illustrations and filmed extracts to mark the bicentenary of the birth of John Bright.
• MP Bill Cash, a family descendant of Bright, who has just written a book about him, is coming up from London to join in. He will use dramatised re-enactments on film with actor John Stride, who had an uncanny resemblance to Bright, to perform extracts from his speeches.
• John Cole, our Rochdale historian, will take a more cynical view and question his actual motives on every issue.
• Balancing the points of view will be Rae Street, a Quaker and historical researcher. The climax is Nick’s 40 minute newly up-dated and extremely powerful film ‘John Bright and the Angel of Death’.
Time: 7.30pm Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm
Tickets: £1 available from Touchstones Rochdale
