catering for all tastes

Huge congratulations to Jenny Taylor of Truffles Catering who is celebrating 25 years of catering for weddings. Over the years, Jenny has catered for a huge number of special occasions and has worked in village halls, castles, tall ships, river boats and marquees in some truly stunning Cornish locations. Jenny told Cornish Brides, ‘Catering for weddings is not just about the food and hiring tableware and staff on the day. There are months of preparations and, of course, I have to advise clients on menu choices, as well as the availability of fresh, local produce and the best ingredients to use. Clients also look to me to help them with other aspects of their wedding such as flowers, music and marquee hire, so it helps to have good local knowledge that I can impart’. Jenny has also seen many changes over the years and is amazed at how things have progressed. ‘In my early days, weddings were relatively straightforward. After the ceremony, the guests would move on to the reception and there would be sandwiches, quiches, sausage rolls, chicken drumsticks and profiteroles on the menu. At the other end of the scale, I might cater for a cold fork buffet, perhaps with a whole dressed salmon with salads and a selection of desserts. The facilities were very basic and some of the kitchens I had to use are probably best forgotten about.’

The scope for couples marrying today is huge and the options really are endless when it comes to choosing menus and selecting special dishes. Jenny maintains that despite the huge array of ingredients that are available from all over the world, the Cornish suppliers she uses are still able to provide her with pretty much everything she needs. ‘We have always had a local butcher, fishmonger, cheese-maker and greengrocer,’ says Jenny, ‘but now it is possible to source almost everything in Cornwall and create an entirely Cornish menu, which is incredibly popular with couples today.’
