HOT NEW BUSINESS - simon andrews photography -

An exciting addition to the Cornish Wedding scene for this upcoming season is international photographer Simon Andrews, whose Vancouver based business Simon Andrews Photography, has been taking the Canadian fashion scene by storm. Simon, predominantly a portrait and fashion photographer, has been applying his skills and experience to wedding and bridal shoots, which he describes as ‘a natural extension of my work and something that I absolutely love’. Simon is now devoting all of his time and effort to his photographic business and is in the process of returning to Cornwall’s sunny shores. With strong Cornish roots, Simon grew up in Cornwall and the West Country, moving to Canada some fourteen years ago to pursue creative opportunities on the west coast. Now, with his wife Lee, they are returning home and will be offering their services for the 2012 season. We recently had a chance to catch up with Simon to find out more about what he has to offer.

Q: So, what inspired you to become involved in Wedding Photography? A: Photography has always been my passion and I’ve never strayed too far from the creative path. I love photographing people, although initially, I was tentative about shooting weddings; but after friends convinced us to shoot their weddings, we found that we really loved it. We decided to branch out shortly after, providing a very professional and high-end service that could combine traditional offerings with our creative and high-impact portrait experience.

Q: What services do you offer and what differentiates Simon Andrews Photography?

A: Well, there is a lot more to professional wedding photography than just turning up on the day, shooting the event then providing an album. We’ve taken an approach where our relationship with our clients is paramount; by building trust and making the process as smooth as possible. We have also built systems that allow us to respond to clients’ needs quicker and in turn we can spend more time working on the creative aspects rather than the administrative. For example, we can offer photo slideshows at the reception via iPad helping to enhance the day itself. We provide online image review and selection so couples can choose the images they like at their leisure. We provide online print purchasing for friends and family and we can keep everyone updated via our blog and our website. Our packages offer flexibility, from ‘digital only’ album and presentation solutions and ‘my wedding’ websites to post creative bridal photo shoots for that magazine cover look. We also offer album ‘credits’ giving clients more choice rather than providing a set album package. All our album layouts are bespoke and we are always excited to provide custom packages for clients who want something completely different.

Q: So you’re returning to Cornwall for 2012. Is this a permanent move for you? A: We are committing our time to Cornwall for 2012 because we have immediate family here and we would like to see how successful we are in this particular area. I love Cornwall and I am optimistic. We are always happy to travel for location weddings, but this will be our base.

Q: What advice would you give to couples looking for Wedding Photography services?

A: Realise that anything is possible so don’t limit your expectations or requirements to the traditional ‘norm’. Your photographer is an integral part of your special day, so find someone you are comfortable with and who understands your needs. Also remember that you are hiring a professional artist. Look at their work and their website as both say a lot about their skill and their professionalism. And last but not least realise that often you do get what you pay for and that twenty years from now, the cost will be insignificant compared to the joy you will get from those images of your special day!
