Support for Learning Courses


Foundation Course SCQF Level 3


DESCRIPTION: This two year Foundation Course is designed for young people leaving school. This course is suitable if you do not feel you are ready to get a job or go on to a mainstream college course. You will study a variety of subjects including core skills and practical options. The aim is to develop skills and confidence in preparation for vocational training, employment or other courses.


Learners may have had additional learning support needs at school and will be working at Access 2 / 3 / Intermediate 1 level. All learners are assigned a Guidance tutor and receive a high level of guidance and support throughout their course. Each learner will have an Individual Learning Plan.


CONTENT: Courses are tailored to individual learners’ requirements and include Core skills, Personal and Social Development, a range of Practical Options.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry qualifications are required. Selection for the course is by interview and discussion of individual needs.


QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION: College certificate. SQA Units at Access 2 / 3 / Intermediate 1. Progression to employment or further training.

NORTH GLASGOW COLLEGE COURSE PROSPECTUS


Foundation School – Link Course SCQF Level 3


DESCRIPTION: The Foundation School – Link Course gives the learners the opportunity to experience the learning environment of North Glasgow College. Learners will become familiar with the college building, get to know staff in the Support for Learning Section and the subjects which are taught. The aim is to give the learners an experience of college on which to base their future when the time comes to leave school. This course gives learners confidence to act on these choices.


Learners may have the opportunity to access a wide range of subjects. This includes practical options taught in various faculties throughout the college. Each learner will have an Individual Learning Plan.


CONTENT: Courses are tailored to individual learners’ requirements and include a range of practical and vocational skills offered within the College curriculum.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry qualifications are required. Placement is made through school/college negotiation.


QUALIFICATIONS & PROGRESSION: SQA Units appropriate to subject options. Progression to Foundation Course on leaving school if appropriate.
