The Campus Towns: Thurles and Clonmel WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

So, you’re thinking about college. Not a decision to be taken lightly. But, studying at third level is not all about academic qualifications. While it is certainly about lectures, studying and exams, it is also a time when you have new freedom and perhaps the independence to make choices that previously someone else made for you and an opportunity to make a new town or city your home for a few years.

However, before you make up your mind on your choice of college, you probably want to know what makes Co. Tipperary and LIT-Tipperary such a great place to go to college.

Where will we start? Take our central location and ease of accessibility for starters! Then check out the affordable and high quality student accommodation available in Thurles and Clonmel – a big factor in these challenging economic times. Or perhaps you’ve heard about our student-centred approach to learning, smaller class sizes – which allow for greater class discussion, our excellent student support services and the homely, friendly atmosphere that prevails here at LIT-Tipperary. Plus as a school of LIT, you know you will graduate from LIT-Tipperary with a respected and recognised qualification. Sounds good? Then read on!

TIPPERARY

County Tipperary or the ‘Premier County’ as we call ourselves is renowned for its rich sporting heritage and is home to some of the most picturesque tourist attractions in Ireland, such as the Rock of Cashel and beautiful Slievenamon. We are known the world over for our stud farms and Tipperary is home to the famous Coolmore Stud which houses former successful racehorses such as Galileo and Rock of Gibraltar. Aidan O’Brien’s famous Ballydoyle facility is also located close-by. Between them, these two world-class facilities have produced winners of practically every great race in modern horseracing history!

However, aside from our sporting prowess, Tipperary is also a great place to go to college and both our campus towns in Thurles and Clonmel boast everything you need to enjoy a great college experience!

THE TOWNS

LIT-Tipperary is the collective name for the Tipperary campuses of Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) in Thurles and Clonmel. The friendly atmosphere that prevails on both campuses also extends across both campus towns whose residents warmly welcome the diverse student population that arrives each September to make Thurles or Clonmel their home away from home for three or four years.
