DANIEL ROOSE
Strength & Conditioning Coach Appalachian State, ‘01, third season
Above the weight racks there is a quote that reads, “In order to win, we pay with energy, effort and discipline.”
Those are three vital words for Roose, but ultimately, he’s only con- cerned about the fourth word in that quote.
“All I want to do is win,” Roose said. “Every minute of my day is spent trying to come up with ways to help us get better and win more, that’s it.”
Roose has become a vital part of Coach Smart’s “HAVOC” style of play, preparing the players physically and mentally to completely dismantle the opposition for 40 minutes.
“Daniel is a fantastic motivator who possesses a great skill in work- ing with our guys,” Smart added. “His knowledge in and around the weight room is outstanding and he has our guys ready to play our style of play all year long.”
Roose came to VCU after two years at UNC Pembroke, where he was in charge of the strength and conditioning of all 16 athletic programs for the Braves.
Prior to UNC Pembroke, Roose was the director of strength and conditioning at Marshall University where he worked directly with the basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball programs, but was in charge of designing training programs for all 15 varsity sports for the Thundering Herd
In addition to Marshall, he also spent a year at Campbell University, serving as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Cam- els.
Nationally certified by the National Strength and Conditioning As- sociation, Roose has also been tabbed as a Level 1 coach by the United States Weightlifting Association.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Appala- chian State in 2001 and later earned his master’s degree in exer- cise physiology from Marshall in 2006.
