JAMION CHRISTIAN
Assistant Coach Mount St. Mary’s, ‘04, first season
Winning cultures breed winning people, and that’s exactly what VCU has in Christian, who enters his first season on the sidelines with the Black & Gold.
Christian joins the VCU coaching staff after a three-year stint at CAA rival, William & Mary where he helped the Tribe to one of their most successful eras in program history.
“We are extremely excited about Jamion joining our staff,” Smart said. “He is a highly-talented young coach, who comes from a strong background of success.”
While at William & Mary, Christian helped the Tribe earn a bid to the 2010 National Invitational Tournament, just the second post season appearance in school history. W&M finished the year with the third most wins in school history, 22, including victories over ACC foes Maryland and Wake Forest.
Christian was integral in signing the Tribe’s 2010 recruiting class that was ranked among the best Mid-Major classes in the country and the top in the CAA by
ESPN.com and Scouts, Inc.
Prior to W&M, he served two seasons as the manager of basketball operations at Bucknell University. Christian is a local product, grow- ing up in New Kent, Va., and prepping at New Kent High School.
Over his playing and coaching career, Christian has been a part of a winning culture everywhere he’s been. Th five head coaches Christian has been associated with over his career have won nearly 2,400 games.
He played for Ed Allen, who won more than 400 career games as a high school coach, at New Kent. Christian played three seasons at Mount St. Mary’s for legendary coach Jim Phelan, who ranks fourth in NCAA history with 830 wins.
He also spent time on the staffs of three successful coaches on the collegiate level. At Emory and Henry, Christian worked under Bob Johnson, who won more than 400 games and has The Old Domin- ion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Coach of the Year award named in his honor.

During his time at Bucknell, Christian worked for head coach Pat Flannery, who registered 329 career wins as a head coach, includ- ing the second most in Bucknell history (234) at the Patriot League school. Flannery was the 2006 Mid-Major Coach of the Year after leading the Bison to a school-record 27 wins and the program’s second straight run to the NCAA Second Round.
