he Virginia Commonwealth University athletic department welcomes members of the media to their coverage of the VCU Men’s Basketball
program. We hope this media guide will be useful in your coverage of the Rams.
If you have any questions this season, please feel free to contact
the VCU Athletic Communications Office at (804) 828-3440. Please allow as much time as possible for interview and credential requests.
Credentials Credentials for VCU basketball games are issued to working media only and should be requested as early as possible. Requests must be made in writing on company letterhead and should arrive at least 48 hours prior to tipoff. Since space is limited, media accommodations are on a priority basis with season credentials being granted to daily television/radio stations and newspapers that cover VCU basketball regularly. Otherwise, televi- sion/radio stations and weekly newspapers will be granted credentials on a single-game, space-available basis. All requests for credentials should be made to Scott Day, 1300 W. Broad St., Suite 2150, Richmond, VA 23284- 2003.
Covering Practice Practices are generally closed to the media. Working members of the media
are required to contact the athletic communications office for clearance as well as for current practice times and locations. Photographers shooting prac- tice are asked to remain off the court and away from the vicinity of workouts.
Photographers Photography credentials will be issued to certified photographers of daily newspapers and television stations in the viewing area of the com- peting teams. Credentials will not be granted to freelance photographers. Photographers may shoot along the baseline of the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center but must stay in the designated photography boxes. Photographers may not shoot from along the sideline either in front or behind the press/officials tables and must stay clear of free-throw lanes. Credentials will not be issued for equipment handlers. Camera-mounted strobe lights are strictly prohibited.
Postgame Interviews Both the VCU and visiting locker rooms are located behind the south
stands at the Verizon Wireless Arena. VCU head coach Shaka Smart and selected Rams players will be available for one-on-one interviews after the game.
Media Services Pregame packets including game notes and statistics will be available in
the Terry Sisisky Media Room prior to tipoff. Halftime and final statistics, as well as a running play-by-play, will be provided following the conclusion of the game. Statistical updates will be given to live media during timeouts.
Ram Radio Network All VCU men’s basketball games during the 2011-12 season will be
broadcast live on 107.3 FM in the Richmond area, along with online on the Ram Radio Network via the VCU Athletics home page at
VCUathletics.com. The Ram Radio Network is a production of the VCU Sports Network.
