Broncos Blanked by Dover Andrew Stevens makes a catch for a first down
by Sue LaRoche It was an unusually warm evening for the 30th of September, but the Dover High School football squad made sure that the Alvirne Broncos did not heat up as they handed the Broncos a 34-0 defeat at Alvirne High School. Dover marched down the field on their first possession of the game taking a 6-0 lead at 9:02 of the first quarter while the Broncos could not convert on a first down in the period. It didn’t get much more successful for the Broncos in the second quarter, although they did convert on three third down plays in the second stanza but never made it past the Dover 42 yard line. As predicted by Coach Bob Nimblett last week, “they (Dover) have a large offensive and defensive line,” and he anticipated having difficulty controlling the line of scrimmage. Dover managed to score two additional times in the first half taking a 21-0 lead into the locker room. While the Alvirne marching band was performing and practicing for their debut on the Gillette stadium field at halftime of the Revolution game the next night, the coaches were
encouraging their players to come out hard and give it their all in the second half. After giving up an early third quarter
touchdown, the Bronco defense stiffened and kept Dover off the board until 2:40 to play in the contest. The Broncos mounted a 10-play drive from their own 17-yard line, including a 64-yard pass play from Josh Cohen to Tony Beaulieu, only to have the drive stall on the Dover 8-yard line with a Bronco fumble with 5:22 remaining in the game. The fumble gave Dover their final scoring opportunity which they capitalized on making the score 34-0. It was a penalty-ridden game with 20 penalty flags thrown between the two teams. Tony Beaulieu finished with 38 yards rushing and 90 receiving yards. Brandon Rule added 45 yards on the ground. Josh Cohen went 10 for 15 for 113 yards. Playing well on defense were Britton Doyle, Tony Beaulieu, Aaron Lavoie, Ryan Rule and Andrew Stevens. The Broncos now sport a 1-3 record in NHIAA
Division II football, 2-3 overall, and will take on 2-1 Winnacunnet on Friday, October 7 at home.

Falcons Bring Lady Cougars Back to Earth
by Marc Ayotte The complete 2010 regular season. The entire 2010 post season. A NH Division III soccer state championship. Ten games of the 2011
season. And an amazing four consecutive wins by the identical score of 2-1 over their toughest competition, Bow. Included in that statistic is the memorable state final thriller with which the Cougars capped off their ‘perfect’ season. That’s what comprised the Lady Cougar soccer team’s winning streak spanning the last two seasons. The streak ended on September 30 when Campbell traveled north to once again, take on Bow. And guess what the score was. Wrong! You were close, though. The Cougars received some of their own medicine when their offensive efforts were kept off the score board, resulting in a goose egg that has been such a familiar number in the opponent’s column over the past two seasons; final - Bow 2, CHS 0.

According to a disappointed Cougar head coach Bob Gannon, who has done an extraordinary job with this year’s team, given last year’s mass-exodus of graduating seniors, ”The Bow girls wanted it more today than the Cougars did.” In continuing to assess the game, Gannon added, “(We) played flat and on our heels for most of the game; outhustled by the Bow girls for all but a few minutes of the game.”

The scoring punch that Cougar fans have grown accustomed to witnessing from the likes of Planty, Neild and Mellen, was shut down by the stingy Falcon defense. However, the veteran Campbell coach praised the defensive play of Liz Pettis,
Campbell defensive star Liz Pettis also serves as a corner kick specialist for the Lady Cougars
Jessica Belzil, Ashley Gannon, and Savannah Cavanaugh along with keep Shannon Lavigne for keeping the score close thus allowing the Cougars to stay within striking distance. The girls’ next home game is Friday, October 7, at 4 p.m. when they host Raymond.

Overtime for Girls Soccer
by Sue LaRoche On Friday, September 30, the Broncos
had two firsts occur in their game against Winnacunnet. First, they scored their first goal of the season when senior Krissy Rowe, assisted by Jocelyn Richardson, beat the Winnacunnet goalie for the first tally of
the season for the Lady Broncos. The other first, was that the Broncos were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime. Great defensive games by Livia Gosselin and Sarah Rosetti, as well as a goal saving block by Colleen Bushnach, helped to fuel a 21 save effort by goalie Tori
LaRoche. Brittney Lambert and Kendall Brigham both played well on the offensive side of the field. Mother Nature did not cooperate on Tuesday, October 4, as the Broncos home game against Salem was washed out. The Broncos are still looking for their first victory of the season.
Hudson-Litchfield Bears Football Week 4
submitted by Jim Wilcox Week 4 scores:
3U L, Plymouth Huskies W 4U 24, Plymouth Huskies 0 5U 6, Plymouth Huskies 0 6U 0, Plymouth Huskies 31 7U 16, Derry Demons 28 8U 26, Keene Knights 6 Week 4 had the Grade 7 Bears facing the 8th/7th Grade Derry Demons at home on Saturday, October 1. The scrappy Bears played the older Derry team very tough in the first half. The Bears’ offense had several good drives in the first half, but was unable to score. The Bears’ defense was equally impressive, holding the Demons to only one score in the first half. The 8th/7th Grade Demons opened the second half with a couple of touchdowns, but the Grade 7 Bears did not panic. The Bears proceeded to score the next two touchdowns to bring the Bears within striking distances. Unfortunately, the Bears ran out of time before completing the come back, but the Bears showed great tenacity and proved they can play with older teams. Great job, Bears!
