Birthday delight for amazing Grace café
TEACUPS were raised in celebration to mark the first birthday of a unique
SouthSide meeting spot. The Grace & Flavour Community Café has become a hit with locals since it was opened last year at Govanhill Trinity Church.
And wellwishers flocked to its Daisy Street base on Tuesday, September 20, to help its team of volunteers celebrate its successful first 12 months. The Grace & Flavour Community Café was the vision of Govanhill Trinity
By MAIRI COLL
Church’s Minister, the Rev Lily McKinnon.
She saw it as the Church’s outreach to the community, with any profits made going to church funds.
The Café and Kitchen were refurbished thanks to a legacy and funding.
Unfortunately, due to ill health, Rev McKinnon had to withdraw from the Café. Miss McKinnon, Project
Worker, also assisted with starting up the Café and thanks
were given to both ladies at the first birthday celebrations for their hard work.
About 40 people attended the
party, including ex-members, friends from the nearby Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Assistant Head Teacher from Hollybrook Academy.
Everyone said what a great time they had and how good the food was.
Stuart Bruce, the Pastoral Assistant at Govanhill Trinity Church, gave a short speech congratulating the staff on the work they have done over the year – as well as acting as the “Official Press Photographer”. Miss Hunter thanked the customers’ for their continued support and also gave thanks to the volunteers’ for their support and hard work.
Mrs Love and Mrs Rankin donated the birthday cake, which had been baked and decorated by Mrs Love. It was enjoyed by everyone.
One of the congregation brought along his keyboard and a good old singsong finished off an enjoyable time.
