Quilt: Continued from Page 10
A story to tell Her friends are inspired by Stokes’
positive attitude and energy. “Janie lifts herself up and keeps
going, no matter what,” said Doris Evans. “We all wonder how in the world she does it! She’s amazing.” Stokes is very
touched by the generosity and support of her quilting friends who have added their skills to hers to make her dream come true. “I may be considered
her computer skills to create a new website (
http://storybookquilts.org) that lists all 37 quilts and books, sorting them by grade level and theme. Stokes’ dream is to make the Storybook Quilt project available to all students across the state of Georgia free of charge. It’s her way of giving back, something her mother
Janie Stokes pairs storybooks with quilts
the head honcho of this project, but I simply could not have done it without the help and support of my fellow quilters,” she said. The Storybook Quilt Committee
includes Doris Evans, Julie Stephens, Laurie Stoner, Barbara Means, Elizabeth Veronneau and Suzanne Hall.
Another fellow quilter, Lene Neesbye-Hansen of Milton, used
always said was very important. Another dream will soon come true for Stokes
when her daughter in Philadelphia delivers a baby girl, due in November. This will be Stokes’ first grandchild. A new chapter is being added to the Stokes family history book and of course, quilts will help tell the story. “I’ve already made two quilts for
this baby, and I have several more patterns that I want to do,” Stokes said. “She will be the most loved grandchild!”
