Demers Ambulances Introduces The ECOSMART System
Demers Ambulances, one of North America’s largest and oldest ambu- lance manufacturers and the Canadian leader, is proud to announce the launch of an exclusive and innovative technol- ogy: the ECOSMART System.
The all-new Demers ECOSMART Anti-Idling System is exclusive to ambulances equipped with the Demers Electrical Management System (DEMS) and offers to the EMS pro- vider automatic fuel sav- ing with over 40% reduc- tion in fuel consumption during idle time, as well as economies of $1,500 to $2,000 in fuel costs
per year. The new system also has a noteworthy impact on the environ- ment, with reductions of 4.5 tons of CO2 emis- sions per year.
Other advantages to the new ECOSMART system include reduced engine hours and therefore increased time between service checks, longer life for the engine, chas- sis and ambulance, and better resale value or absorption of asset over a longer period of time.
“The new ECOSMART System is a ready-to- use system on Demers ambulances provid- ing EMS with sub- stantial fuel savings

helping them to better control their opera- tional costs,” says Alain Brunelle, President & General Manager of Demers Ambulances. “Thousands of dollars of savings make a huge difference in today’s economy, and at Demers, our goal is to help fleet managers to meet their objectives,” he added.
The Demers Electrical Management/Multiplex System lets you set crite- ria for when the vehicle goes into anti-idling ECOSMART mode. In ECOSMART mode the system determines if the vehicle’s engine needs to be running to provide both the required electri-
Also, the engine is turned off but all sys- tems that were opera- tional remain so, includ- ing emergency lights, heating, cooling, etc. The vehicle stays off until the temperature in the patient compartment goes outside preset limits or there is a voltage drop in any battery bank. It then restarts and runs for a minimum of 10 minutes for voltage drop and until ECO condi- tions are re-established. Furthermore, the anti- idling system disen- gages when the vehicle is restarted with a key or shifted out of Park. For security reasons, the anti-idling system is automatically dis- abled when the hood is opened.
ECOSMART System is an option available now on new units, and also as a retrofit kit for all our models built within the last seven years, that are equipped with our DEMS multiplex system. u
