Can You Hear Me Now?

As regular readers know, The Motorcycle Times has been watching the developments of local motorcycle noise restrictions in cer- tain municipalities. Although our focus was on Caledon, North West of Toronto, laws have been passed in other areas as well, so we thought it might be time to revisit the issue, perhaps in a place still without a law. While working on another story, I found myself at the Hockley General Store in


the Hockley Valley, near Orangeville. For as long as I’ve been riding, the Hockley Road (AKA Hockley Valley Road) has been one of the must-experience bike roads for Southern Ontario riders. Like the Forks of the Credit Road, the pavement is mostly smooth and very curvy for the sportbike rid- ers and incredibly scenic for the rest. Most rides either end, or at least stop at the Gen- eral Store in the historic village of Hockley, for coffee, snacks or even a sit-down meal. I had a great lunch there myself. What a great way to enjoy a beautiful Sunday ride.


As I rounded the last corner, in my truck,


(try carrying cameras, laptops and gear on a bike) I came upon what I first thought to be a wonderful sight. Motorcycles, parked wall to wall around the store, as many as 100 bikes surrounding the corners. I saw everything from sportbikes to Sportsters. Gold Wings, vintage bikes and Ducatis all parked togeth- er. Coffees in hand, riders were chatting and looking at the bikes. I was in heaven. I bought myself an ice cream bar and settled in to watch the comings and goings, but as I did, Continued on Page 3
