experience, and internship,” said Dr. Ed Polloway, dean of graduate studies. “Wendy has done phenomenal work promoting the collaboration between lc and the ministry of education in St. Lucia, and she has been very helpful with the service learning program for lc students who go to St. Lucia.”
J
udy graduated in May with an m.ed. in mental health counseling, after completing
an internship in the adult psychiatric ward at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Working in the dual diagnosis unit, Judy was involved with patients who suffered from mental illness and substance abuse. “Getting involved with the patients and doing one-on-one counseling provided wonderful experiences for me,” Judy said. Sylvia Lantz, Judy’s supervisor at the hospital
and an alumna of the lc counseling program, reported that Judy flourished in her internship to the point that Sylvia routinely assigned her the difficult clients. “Judy is a calm and attentive listener,” Lantz said, “and her consoling voice, along with her ever-present smile, communicated care and support to those clients who face many challenges and few options.”
