Equestrian Senior Drew Nichols earned reserve champion honors at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Finals held at the Kentucky Horse Park. Nichols is the second reserve national champion the Hor- nets have had in the last three years. Kelly Gerland also qualified for national competi- tion in the intermediate flat class. LC took second place at the Bridgewater College IHSA event in the fall and first place at the Hollins University Horse Show.


Softball Lynchburg captured twenty-one wins this spring for the program’s eleventh straight twenty-win season. Three Hornets earned all-conference honors, and the team had the distinction of hitting two grand slams in the same game. Senior Katie Bruce fin- ished her outstanding career and graduated with four pitching records. The Hornets won twelve of their first fourteen games, and at one point in the season, shut out five oppo- nents in a row.


Golf Conrad Anguera had an incredible season for the Hornet golf team. He won the individual title at the Shipbuilder Invitational and finished fourth overall at the conference championships. He earned second-team All- ODAC honors, and Lynchburg tied for sixth at the ODAC championships.


Women’s Lacrosse LC once again re- mained an ODAC force, finishing 12-5 and 8-1 in the conference for a second-place regular season finish. The Hornets won seven-straight games and had six representatives on the All-ODAC team, including four on the first team. Junior goalie Christina Tran earned second-team All-American honors.


Men’s Lacrosse The men’s team advanced to the ODAC title game for the second-straight


season and had eleven student-athletes on the all-conference team. At one point, the team won nine-straight contests, riding to a final record of 13-6, including a 5-2 mark in conference. Sophomore Joe Lisicky earned third-team All-American honors and three others received honorable mentions.


Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Both Hornet programs won the conference titles this spring in impressive fashion. Doug Thomasey and James Goss earned Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year honors, respectively. Three Hornets advanced to the Division III National Meet, and junior James Bell finished eighth in the decathlon to earn All-American honors. Many school records were set, and senior Ashley Allen earned first-team Academic District IIIWomen’s Cross Country and Track and Field honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


Baseball The Hornet baseball team finished 24-15 this spring, but had an even more im- pressive conference showing. LC went 14-4 in league play and finished second in the ODAC regular season. Matt Morgan was named third-team All-South Region and James Womack was voted the ODAC Rookie of the Year. Head Coach Percy Abell ’87 won his 300th career game.


Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head Coach Jason Page took over both squads this sea- son and boosted both programs. The Hor- net men captured four matches this spring, including two conference contests. Junior Jim Rochow received an honorable men- tion to the All-ODAC Team. The women’s team improved in 2011, winning twice with one conference victory. LC defeated Ferrum College 8-0 and Randolph College 7-2.
