GLANCE The Islands


The three main islands, Malta, Gozo and Comino are inhabited, while the three smaller islands Cominotto, Filfla and St. Paul’s Island are uninhabited.


Location


Located in the centre of the Mediterranean, the Maltese Islands are some 62 miles south of Sicily.


Size


Malta is the largest landmass of the Maltese Islands and covers 246 kilometres squared with 136 kilometres of coastline. Gozo is approximately 67 kilometres squared and has 50 kilometres of coastline. Comino covers only 2.7 kilometres squared.


Population:


The population of Malta is over 410,000 people.


Language:


The official languages are Maltese and English. Many residents are multi lingual.


Currency:


The official currency is the Euro. Many hotels and larger shops and restaurants also accept foreign currency.
