As part of my strategic work with clients, we often review the ef- fectiveness of their website and the impact their web presence is having on their business. In order to understand how their website is performing, the first thing I do is ask them what their website stats are telling them.
That’s usually when they get the “deer in the headlights” look and say something like, “Huh, I don’t think I have website stats” or “I don’t ever look at them, it’s too confusing”. The thing is you abso- lutely MUST track your website statistics and you MUST review those statistics on a regular basis so you can make better decisions about one of your most important business assets – your website.

Now, I am not suggesting that you pour over every statistic on a daily basis, but there are a few things that you want to track over time to help you make better decisions about how you are using your web- site. Of course, before you can track and review your statistics, you have to have a tool you can trust that has the ability to report your statistics back to you in a user friendly manner.
I highly recommend using Google Analytics as your site’s main web stat tracking tool. Even if your web host provides some sort of website stat tracking, I still recom- mend adding Google Analytics. It is FREE, easy to install, it provides you with all kinds of information

about your site and the people visiting it, and the reports available to you in your dashboard make it super easy for you to review and understand your website stats. It simply is the best tool out there for tracking your site’s web statis- tics.
So What Are Some of The Things You Should Be Tracking?
This is one of the reasons I love Google Analytics so much, being affiliated with the number one search engine means they under- stand what’s important when it comes to tracking website stats and performance and their Analyt- ics tool tracks them for you.
