How long? One year
What do I need?
Due to the nature of the profession, it is important you are motivated, able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. You should be well-presented, with good communication/ social skills with an interest in beauty. In addition to this, school leavers will need at least one of the following:
Four GCSEs at Grade D or above, or
Successful completion of an appropriate Foundation Learning qualification with a good attendance record and satisfactory reference from your tutor.
What will I study? Theoretical and practical subjects include:
• Manicure/Pedicure • Facials for men and women • Make-up • Waxing • Threading • Eye treatments • Salon management • Anatomy and physiology • Retail and reception • Customer care • Health and safety • Teamwork.
Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English dependent upon results at entry.
What can I do next?
Progression to VRQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy; Hairdressing VRQ Level 2; or Diploma in Complementary Therapies. Alternatively, you may choose to seek employment in a beauty salon or work as a freelance therapist.

How long? One year
What do I need?
You should have successfully completed the VRQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy or an equivalent qualification. You should also be self-motivated, well-groomed, with a smart appearance and able to communicate at all levels. You should have a good attendance record and a satisfactory reference from your tutor.
What will I study? Theoretical and practical subjects include:
• Body massage • Heat treatments • Face and body electrical treatments • Epilation • Promotional activities • Relevant anatomy, physiology and aromatherapy.
What can I do next?
Progress to the Diploma in Complementary Therapies or seek employment in a health hydro, on a cruise liner, as a salon manager/owner or department store freelance therapist.
